Graduate and Undergraduate Student Choreography Highlighted in DANCE/Strasser

The College at Brockport’s Department of Dance will present DANCE/Strasser, featuring choreography by undergraduate and graduate students in Brockport’s nationally renowned dance program. Performances are Thursday through Saturday, October 28 – 30, 2010, at 7:30 pm in Rose L. Strasser Studio in Hartwell Hall, Kenyon Street, Brockport. Post-performance discussions will take place directly after the Thursday and Saturday shows allowing viewers to hear from choreographers about their pieces and ask questions about the works. Tickets prices are $15/General, $10/Seniors, College at Brockport Alumni, Faculty and Staff and $8/Students and are available by phone at (585) 395-ARTS or at the Tower Fine Arts Center Box Office.  Any previously unsold tickets will be available for purchase at the Hartwell Box Office one hour prior to each performance.
The program includes “Impulse,” a new trio by graduate student Vanessa Van Wormer, a former member of Ballet Spokane. Van Wormer invited cellists Joy Adams and Daniel Ketter to play a Vivaldi sonata as live accompaniment for her piece. Sophomore Melanie Farber’s tap dance, “In the Groove,” highlights lively rhythms for seven dancers. Kathleen Reagan, recipient of the Bette Bailey Scholarship for Excellence in Dance, choreographed a new duet, “Analysis of a Thought.” Works in this concert are newly created by graduate and undergraduate choreographers and selected by an adjudication committee that included students and faculty coordinators James Hansen and Mariah Maloney. In choosing pieces, the committee looked for original ideas, inventive movement vocabulary and diverse approaches to dance.
